We moved to the NW coast of Alaska when my daughter was 6 months old. She loved raw whale blubber, usually served with the skin still on. I thought the only thing worse was fermented seal flipper.

It is comfort food, if you started eating it when you were still being breast-fed. Otherwise, it is like trying to be fluent in a new language as an adult; never feels right in your mouth.

you are of mention China. did you eat carp?

I was hosted my first China visit. Changsha. Hot & humid. a large bowl of fish, as in a carp, white eyeballs & tail, sitting in some soup concoction that looked like dishwater & soup after washing.
All the Chinese went for the fish head & tail. I'm thinking, okay.. I will have a go. I went for the upper fwd fillet. It was good! I tried the soup. It was excellent.
Despite all the contrary things of Western culture do's & don'ts, it set me on the path to authentic Chinese cooking, especially the street food. If you don't try, you are missing life.
