Yousef,

As I am sure you are aware the Alpha is also capable of being a Win NT workstation and DEC is promising an upgrade path. Only time will tell how operating systems will evolve. I agree Win NT systems are the future in workstations but this gives Compaq a quick move to cover both UNIX and the NT business on the short term. It also gives them a way to maintain Tandems business which was based on a MIPS processor but is no longer supported by NT.

Yousef, Then if Intel buys the dec alpha fab its' a good deal for Intel? explain please.
