The company anticipates that the EU will now repay the manufacturers of computer networking equipment who have been burdened with improper tariffs over the past three years.

WORLDCOM INC applied with Japanese regulators for a licence to offer local and long-distance telephone services in the Japanese market. The company, based in Jackson, Mississippi, will lay its own fibre-optic cable network in Tokyo and then spread to other regions of the country if they are believed to be profitable, Steve Liddell, president of WorldCom Asian Pacific Ltd told reporters in Tokyo.
