My impression was they got the military dogs out, but not all the dogs in the possession of the animal-rescue organizations. As a dog lover, I find it painful to even think about the subject.

Couldn't agree more on your other points. That said, the US wasn't the only country screwing up the pull-out. Canada messed it up royally.
