Yes.

I think a good proportion of the British public were sympathetic to the Southern cause, Slavery aside, and they did do good business in cotton.

The Southern secessionists misunderstood British politics and motivation, and it was a costly mistake.

btw. Liverpool is chock a block with buildings, statues, and architecture that celebrated the slave trade. It's part of history, and should be regarded as such. We don’t want to go back there again for sure, so I see no point in pulling it all down. Yeah, it's there to remind us of what we did wrong. ... chit happens and it's good to be aware of that fact. imho.
