People are the same all over the world. Some are just more educated than others.

That is the only difference in people..

The only difference between Afghanistan and the western democracies is that they never had the luxury of education, but once it was offered to them they thrived, like all people do.

When we went over there, there were NO females in school and only 900,000 boys and I'll bet most of that was religious nonsense.

As of last month there were eight million kids in school and 40% were females, and they had as many women in politics as we do, where none existed before, and women were working and democracy and civil rights was gaining ground.

Yes, it took longer because before we got there many did not know the world was round or able to count to ten.

And what we left behind will still help that part of the world because of what so many LEARNED by our being there, BUT we also left millions to be tortured and starved and to live a life of terror for no good reason, IMO.

<, my point...

My point was just what I said - our policy was shaped by the Domino Principle and Cold War politics all around the globe just as South and Central American, China, Korea and Vietnam were extensions of the Monroe Doctrine and previous imperialistic tendencies - different people, more recent, but same issues. 1911A1 pistol was invented to bring democracy to people who were really going to get what I'd consider egalitarian policy.

Afghanistan has its own arc and it is sad - but no sadder than our other eff-ups in that or other regions where we disrupted the natural order - were left exposed and foundering - and then left behind a situation not appreciably better.
