Most folks on the street know the script better than I. Or the seignorage just ends up w/ the Mint. But we should not begrudge because the pandas have a solid track record for numismatic gain that way outperforms gold itself. I tend to buy panda / lesser bullion (eagles, buffalos, maple, koala, nugget, krugrands, etc etc) in a mix of 1:1 in some years and 9:1 in others. 1:1 for years of gold bull, because more pandas are minted out of the authorised mintage and therefore lesser gain in the future. 9:1 during years when gold is trash, because something like 25K pandas are minted out of the 600K (1-oz / 30gm versions) authorised and the numismatic zoom prove to be substantial in after market, even as all bullion are bought at spot + ~3.5% in the year that they are issued. everything is a game.
