Respond to of 541114 Worldwide public education is barley 100 years old. What you are missing is that in the aggregate, MOST worldwide education today is "secular", and simply reflects modern day "knowledge" about how the world works, and modern day ideas of abstract ideas like democracy and civil rights, that most western nations agree on and are implemented. And while education is taught a bit different from place to place, this "randomness" of modern day education is a mitigating factor, to the death knell of dogma, which humans embraced en masse until about 100 years ago. We are fast becoming an existential world, and existential perception is a direct result of higher order thinking, and cannot be achieved without it; AND at NO time in our history has the human species had so much higher order abstract thinking! Specifically, what existentialism has done is turn our basic thinking around e.g. it teaches that existence precedes essence (think religion). That could only be achieved with education! " Sartre explains that the basic principle of existentialism is that existence precedes essence. ... Existence precedes essence also means that every human being is solely responsible for their actions because we choose who we are . Humans are born as “nothing” and then become who they are through their choices and actions.." And when you talk about the smart Nazi's, and I will add Japanese, that were so brutal during WWII, you actually make my argument in that BECAUSE of modern day "thinking" born out of comprehensive modern day education and knowledge, both Europe and Japan, and South Korea, have countries that are both democratic and responsive to civil rights today. And whereas the KKK once had millions of followers, now it is 100% in hiding and NO one in politics would ever admit to belonging to it. That is the result of a new "higher order of thinking"! Modern day worldwide civility which manifested in only a couple of decades, is obviously the product of modern day knowledge. The first part of the last century we had two world wars, where today we have the EU and NO hard borders like the Maginot line.in France, the Germans over ran. Cheers <<You did not get that "education" is an indoctrination to some set of principles and facts/assumptions that are transferred in whole or part to the student. Whether those are true or not and whether the student internalized them as process changes distinguishes the kind of education one gets. Who's measuring and what is considered "true"? Education is abstract (like beauty) and discussing it without a curriculum and a verification process for the knowledge transfer is vapid. Repeating rhetoric about James Flynn-IQ boosts ignores the fact that smart people on the planet became Nazis or members of the KKK, and proposing "education" as some panacea does not advance discussion or cure the problem. It is clear that some if not many people who went to the same schools I did came out effed up in terms of their political and social viewpoints. There is some weak correlation but lots, and lots of R's are "educated'. And many people without education vote for democracy.
