[issue 1/ issue 2 ?]

greetings

>>why do a secondary to raise cash for shopping? why not just do stock-for-stock swaps?<<

yes... this might work as well.. but think that cash would have a certain special appeal <g>.. was really thinking along the lines of israeli co's (as targets)... don't have a sense of how cash compares to stock swaps in israel... from my limited experience, seems more deals are done with cash... (shlomi?)

in any case...... with prices where they are, a secondary or stock swap, seems unlikely , particularly if there is no pressing need and if there is cause to believe there is significant upside in the not too distant future...

a related thought/another option (later on) would seem to be a private (?) secondary... certainly simpler... sell a chunk to someone with aligned interests (partners)... while keeping orctf management still be in control (majority)

Strategically/financially, would think fujitsu has the most riding on orctf at this point...

did you notice that the g.lite ti chipset only conforms to issue 1 of adsl standard? (not issue 2?)

"....Also, UAWG member TI disclosed details of its ADSL chip set last week in Santa Fe, N.M. The TNETD2000-developed with ADSL pioneer Amati Communications Corp. (San Jose, Calif.)-uses a version of TI's C6x DSP scheme to effect the discrete multitone required by Issue 1 of the T1.413 ADSL standard..."

what do you think is up there?

really don't understand the differences between issue 1 and issue 2..looked around and the best i could do was:

"Standards and Associations

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI), working group T1E1.4, recently approved an ADSL standard at rates up to 6.1 Mbps (ANSI Standard T1.413). The European Technical Standards Institute (ETSI) contributed an Annex to T1.413 to reflect European requirements. T1.413 currently embodies a single terminal interface at the premise end.

Issue II, now under study by T1E1.4, will expand the standard to include a multiplexed interface at the premise end, protocols for configuration and network management, and other improvements.

The ATM Forum and DAVIC have both recognized ADSL as a physical layer transmission protocol for unshielded twisted pair media."

among other issues, do you think the differences between issue 1 and issue 2 revolve around atm?

would not really be surprised if there weren't something of a struggle going on in the uawg between those who've got this thing knocked and those who have a little ways to go... sounds like the issues revolve around how much to take out of full standards for g.lite (could be more expensive for some than others depending on chipset integration?)
