Rose,
Your last note was somewhat erroneous concerning the infamous gold trader known as "Mack the knife".
First of all he profited quite handsomely from the drop in the XAU.
His analysis is is not based on one Mutual Fund as you stated but on Technical Analysis of many XAU and commodity related issues as well as a fundamental model. There are times when he does use a Mutual fund or two or three to take a long position. Not always the same mutual fund though.
I have it on the QT that he would post more of his indicators on SI if topics such as Gold-XAU would stick to the topic. As it is, a lot of the Ole 49er posts just go off on some tangent unrelated to the movement of gold, silver, the XAU and other closely related topics...and somehow end up talking about mules and other such frivolous things. Right now he sticks to SI-Golddigger...because those there want to talk TA...
Regards, Jim

Hi O/49r,

Further on the subject of timing.

One of the things I and a lot of other people here are waiting for is the DOW to crash/correct/whatever. At which point the assumption is the virtues of gold start to re-assert themselves, our own favorite index (XAU) starts a ride off to similar outrageous overvaluations, we all make fortunes and retire in the sun !! <VBG>

Seriously though, an obvious test of this hypothesis is a look back at the hiccup last October, which I did and it doesn't look good.

see for example: stocksite.com

ABX fell off a cliff like everything else (and the paterrn was repeated by a number of other golds I looked at).

What do you think will happen to the Golds if the Dow does finally
'crack' ?

Regards,

Michael
