I follow an almost perfect copy of that approach as well, using SSD for safe dividends, at or near fair value or better. Generally, I aim for an 80/20 split of income from blue chips and CEFs, respectively.

I also manage risk from an income perspective, not really worrying about position sizing based on cost. No more than 5% of portfolio from any one company, no more than 2% from any one CEF. Helps to limit me to 16 companies and 10 CEFs, a quantity I can keep up with. Figuring, as you do, that the CEF's will eventually have to cut, and it's easier to replace that with a blue chip down the road if the impact is relatively small.

I think I was just looking for a little reassurance, HA!

So chowder, for the 5 Million port, how long did it take to get there and was that from saving how much a year or what?
