If you want the truth, you are never going to get it from government.

Thoreau described Government best, when he wrote an essay, " Life without Principle."

And that applies to liberals/progressives and conservatives alike.

As a liberal, I'd be the first to admit that there are lots of social programs that are a waste, not in full, but in part. What makes them a waste is that many people end up getting benefits that have no right to get benefits, like I did with the stimulus checks. Just trade your IRA and 401K accounts and cap your profits in your individual account.

SOme people do require the social programs, which many conservatives don't understand and both parties provide an all or nothing attitude toward them. Since there is no "in between" position, I side with the liberals.

Government, to be sure, is to big, to provide an "in between" position. There are so many loopholes, like with tax reduction.

For instance, in the early 80s, I wrote a letter to Giuliani, asking him why I had to have money withdrawn from my paycheck for NYC retirement. I said I was a big boy and could invest in my own retirement and didn't need NYC to do that for me. He responded by saying that the teacher's union voted for that and we can't discriminate or have a minority of members not doing so. Same logic applied
to donating to teacher union.

Government does not have the resources to be specific so it ends up being turned into ideological warfare
