Hello Mike,

All investors should be careful when using technical analysis.
The many books on the subject often provide nice charts, but often
is based on hindsight. In real time it is a different story. If the
systems really work all the authors who have contributed over the
years would have not written about their techniques.

There also is a lot of software with the common types of analysis on
them. If the systems worked there would be a lot of people with extra
money in the world.

A system cannot predict in advance reliably, an event which may or
may not occur in the future. So caution is advised. Even in analyzing
Agate Bay some systems failed to pinpoint major turns in the price.

Still others contend TA works, and maybe it does, but they will not
share their secrets. I have no secrets and simply used what is
common knowledge.

It is difficult at the best of times to predict price movements. Some
investors may find this helpful. For example: See what Kaiser says
is a "buy" and find another independent analyst (newsletter, etc)
who also recommends the stock. If can't pay for all the services,
try "Investor's Digest" in the library. In all issues there is a
page which condenses recommendations from numerous sources.

Regarding the rollback, I don't know what is being planned. It would
be nice to know the rollback ratio if such action in being
contemplated.

Kaiser probably is basing his decision on the facts thus far. Anything
Jack Marr is planning now is not factored into Kaiser's analysis.

In yesterday's message, I wanted to show that there is no infallible
investment approach. It should not be assumed that the methods and
indicators I presented will be profitable.

To start try:"Technical Analysis Explained" by Martin Pring 412 pages.

Investment Training Coarse by Synergy Software-Luton, England
Tel:01582-424282 Fax:01582-482741

For an example of yesterday's discussion:
Fjordland Minerals 30-49 cents recommended by Kaiser and another
independent analyst, Robert Bishop from "Gold Mining Report"
see Nov.7/97 "Investors Digest".

Caution as usual, as price yesterday 80 cents, and now is above
Kaisers entry price.

Various negotiations are ongoing; thus with the sensitive nature of
the talks, please understand my earlier reluctance to comment.Much
now is insider information and best wait for public news.Any new
financing being planned, acquisition of new properties, and comments
of Kaisers optimism should circumstances change are speculation at
the moment.

The IR of VSE firms are generally optimistic in their comments to
shareholders. "All reassurances may be true but they are only words,
whereas the investor is dealing with money. They are not the same.
We cannot stress more that it is very important to keep in touch
with the facts and stay objective."

Hello Mike,

Your favorite site is www.aurex.com. Although I have not subscribed to it, this internet stock newletter looks promising. The Aurex site allows the user to get a rating, commentary and stock chart, all updated daily. If something favorable comes up could it be posted on this forum?

Thanks

Technical analysis alone is risky as it attempts to anticipate the news and not react to it. My statements of favorable TA without any
strong fundamentals appears contradictory. Speculation in penny stocks are often based on expectations and not financial statements. If this sounds risky, investors should seek strong fundamentals in conjunction with favorable technical analysis.

Mike,

The technical systems which I use try to anticipate the news. There are other systems which monitor prices and do not attempt to foretell the news. For example: MACD and Relative Strength ratings monitor prices in their own ways.

For more information try: "Technical Analysis from A to Z", by Steven Achelis. Look at RSI p.255; PVT p.239. For both, focus on divergences. Formulas and charts are explained for both. Get consensus of 2-3 systems and a price trendbreak before buying or selling. For Geodex, the trendbreak should occur at the 40 cent level to be safe.

I have composed various charts by hand. This was supplemented by books (some over $130), nearly 2 years of full-time work on technical analysis and a trip to London England for research on the subject.

Modifications and back-testing the various systems took up most of the time.

If you wish to persue fundamental analysis on more established firms I recommend the booklet: "How to Invest in Common Stocks", by Value Line. Note the Coca-Cola Company example (Warren Buffett favorite), especially the "sustainable internal rate of growth" concept; ever increasing and over 20%.

One caution in earlier message of May 8: It is dangerous to average down a stock which is in a well defined downtrend.

For technical analysis then, maybe use Meta Stock software to chart Agate/Geodex over the past 2 years, noting all divergences near the highs and lows. Whether all of this work will pay off still remains to be seen.

Kaiser's earlier comments on Agate reflected his analysis of the Chimborazo project at that time. He wants much softer acquisition terms and was concerned about parameters of deposit not being increased by infill drilling. The greatest expansion of tonnage will be done by extension drilling and on adjoining property held by BHP. Also, Inmet's leaving had him concerned. All these issues are being currently addressed by Geodex and the other parties.

The hiring of geologists, possibility of new acquisitions, and financial support from the principals involved indicates some direction and commitment. Only the actual news releases will shed more light on these activities.
