I have no idea what they are including in the 20 - 100 mill number. If it includes the cost of the patents and r & d they could already be well on their way. R & D was way up in 97. I found it interesting the article didn't point out that they have had over 5 months to be working on it. Whatever "it" is. <g> About the only thing i've concluded is that the assumption was intel got the patents and no one really has a clue what s3 is going to do with them. I left the article at work but back in august someone was quoted as saying these patents were very similar to what intel is using for the merced (however it's spelled) but these patents were first. I'd like to have been a fly on the wall when intel found out they didn't get them. I don't know that there is any relationship with apple anymore or not but it sure did make me sit up at take notice of apple's advertisment on cnn. They have a pentium II chip on a snail.. it's hilarious. Anyway, I don't think i really care what they are doing. I just hope they announce something that's kick ass, high margin and much sought after. the sooner the better. Oh, I did talk to one person who said they couldn't do much without a fab. He didn't know about the fab interest they have. :) he does now. At least now i'm back in the money on S3 so I can breath a little easier. The race is on and it looks like s3 is in it.
