You seem to be fixated on this energy consumption issue. It is relevant only with regard to how energetic an alternative would be - A bit of study would reveal to you that energy, value and information are extremely closely related - a Nobel prize was given to an IBM researcher (Carl Landauer) for it. So when you talk about wasted energy - the thoughts and energy you spend writing does not transform the problem of crypto nor does it illuminate anyone who knows anything about it. That is a zero information transaction of energy - a true waste.

I feel the frustration Slewnoir has with you and your strong opinions in areas where there is subtlety that you don't like or agree with. For some matters, one must spend the necessary time to understand the nuance or one's opinions become the objects of self-parody.

Today the person replacing me as I retire told us that she just came down with COVID19 - she said some things previously that led me to believe she was reluctant to take a vaccine because of the "unknown" factors.

I hope she doesn't die from what amounted to an ignorant choice to not get vaccinated because of some poorly founded fear that she might die or face lifelong challenges from the vaccine (a theoretical abstraction) as opposed to the disease (a finite probability that is much, much more real).

I understand your position on crypto but it is built on a weak foundation. Read something and we can talk about specific points but a general statement that it is "wasted energy" or that it "creates nothing" is absurd. The security of the wallet or the relative benefits of "proof of stake" or "proof of work" are valid areas of concern, as well as the doomsday scenario - you can't eat a bitcoin.
