Few people claim it is a currency. It can be stolen and it can be traced.

I think a lot of people claim it can replace currency. That is kind of the whole point.

Further a lot of people think its magically safe and can't be stolen, because, well, its all part of the public ledger!

And a whole lot of people are attracted to it because they think it can't be traced.

Which is part of why I think its a scam. The vast majority of people only hear the talking heads hyping it and have no idea what it is. I periodically run across articles extolling the magic of blockchain and how it will solve all sorts of problems. Yet, despite all the hype there is almost no use of it outside of mining. In the Ag rags I get, there are periodic articles that illustrate this stupidity. I kid you not, they are claiming that very shortly now, every ag worker in the field will be tagging fruit with a blockchain label, that will somehow magically insure that what the consumer gets off the shelf at the grocery store is magically superior to what they are getting now, because "the public ledger" will work its magic! WTF??
