As you know I am to the left of most people, but I also am a moderate at times when the left goes too far e.g "the Squad" often goes too far, but their underlying intentions are better, IMO, than the moderates. When I was in the Hippie movement in the 60's (counter culture) which was simply a liberal movement en masse, there were a lot of nut cases who joined without understanding the "existential" ideology e.g. the SDS, and the horoscope and crystal folks. In fact that movement was a mixture of those "rejecting" the status quo for ideological reasons, those joining for the openness and those being "rejected by society". The right wing never knew the difference and always pointed to the latter as the "dirty hippies as representative of the movement, when in fact it was the honor students, that were the true representatives i.e. it was an intellectual movement that saw e.g. that racism, sexism and homophobia were barbaric and that also saw that cultures that demanded their young adhere to their primitive norms and mores and did not allow them to be who they were or wanted to be. The Hippie mantra was :" do your own thing as long as it does not hurt people." <, I'm too young and too liberal. Even the ads on this site are 100% conservative (when I don't have my ad blocker on). I don't mind different points of view. In fact, I seek them out. I suppose others want to be around people who are just like them and maybe we all do it to some degree but leaders need to be able to talk to everyone and the mods on SI are not leaders.
