When you speak ill of the Squad you're writing against those who are trying to create a world where fossil fuels stop destroying the planet. They're leaders in every sense of the word. I think the older folk don't get that part yet. AOC has two degrees, one in economics. She can run circles around any conservative or moderate. Not politically she can't. She appears to believe that her views are popular. She should try running in a state-wide race against Schumer. She would almost certainly lose unless of course the Rs get strategic and vote in the Democratic primary in order to get her elected in place of Schumer. Which is possible. The Rs would love to get rid of Schumer and have her be the undisputed face of the Democratic Party. They would let her rant as much as she wants--they would win majorities in both the House and the Senate and likely the presidency as well, except perhaps if Trump is their nominee. Having degrees doesn't make you politically smart. Scoring debate points where the people who agree with you applaud enthusiastically means bumpkis in the electoral world. Many of us would like "to create a world where fossil fuels stop destroying the planet." Actually, amending that somewhat--where FFs stop transforming the planet into a place that would be inhospitable to many of the creatures that are adapted to current conditions and lethal to many others. I have said this to Koan before but I'll repeat it to you. When he was Senate Majority Leader, LBJ managed to get a Civil Rights bill passed in 1957 that was criticized by the left as being too weak and by the right as existing at all. He finally got a bill with real teeth in it passed in 1964 when conditions were more favorable. But the 1957 bill was important as a first step. LBJ knew how far he could go to get the necessary votes and knew it was important to get something enacted as a prelude to future laws. Progressives like AOC apparently don't understand how to fight against vested interests and strongly held opposing opinions. They have no nuance; they believe so much in their own virtue and correctness that they think all they have to do is be direct and blunt and everyone will see that they are right and others are wrong and they will win the day. Politics in a mass democracy doesn't work like that. The Rs love people like that to be their opposition. They will shove them to the front of the class, make them feel all important, and then they will win majorities in state legislatures and Congress and the Progressives will cry about how evil they are and how their views were misrepresented.

I am a fan of The Squad, but they are young and sometimes go too far.

They are after all just human :)>.

But I mostly put that in to assuage those who like to see me as a left wing nut, to show I am flexible :)>.

Never worry about any conversation being about me against you, I always simply see it as us talking.

We should not always agree, we both know different things and so it is best for us to be open so we can catch each other mistakes or blind spots, and make our case.

In the end we all have intellectual deficiencies, or just different values and priorities.

Anyway, I don't want this to be me against you. We disagree from time to time and I'm okay with it. I'm trying to explain.

Manchin would have told President Kennedy to go half way to the moon. Moderates and conservatives don't make history. They're too afraid.
