Quite well stated Dan.
Not of potential as a major player but a possible takeover candidate, with likely push from the investors. So, when and how much is the name of this game! Who needs them however, if their goods are all licensed away, and DSL standardization minimizes proprietary advantage?

Sorry...but you are wrong!!!

>>>Few have hit on the highly likely possibility that AWRE will probably be acquired, very likely sooner rather than later.<<<

That has been gone over so much most of us are just sitting tight waiting...bored, but waiting!

AWRE is too small to ever be a significant player in ADSL
Aware by itself may be too small, but they have some powerful support. Their joint venture with ADI should allow them to satisfy the licensing agreements they have made with US Robotics(3 Com) and others. The Microsoft-Intel-Compaq consortium obviously carries a lot of weight. Sure, Aware is tiny now, but you have to start somewhere.

<<<In view of what has happened recently in the industry, AWRE looks very interesting today. But, I would not buy this company with the idea that this midget will someday be an ADSL leader. >>>

Dan,
Excellent post. VERY informative.

I just wanted to hit on this point in your post. Your right, it's a 1 in a 100 chance that AWRE will survive and dominate in xDSL. It's very likely that they will be purchased in 1998.

Some points about the splitterless g.lite ASDL technology.

It's not a dialup connection.
You can't make a dialup connection to your local ISP.
It's a telephone company central office connection that I belive the local Bell's will control.
That means that the little guys can't paticipate.
This technology is all about the BIG guys.

No way they will allow a little AWRE to control what makes the pipe work.

But they will allow AWRE (and the shareholders) make money. I believe some really good money. But it's going to have to happen in 98. Or we will have missed it.

I like the risk. I've taken much worse.

Good Luck,

Joe
