Look how fewer people have been killed in the last 60 years than the 60 years before that with even better weapons, so wisdom is working. We had two world wars between 1900 and 1960 in Europe, and today we have the European union.

MAD (Mutual Assure Destruction).

I would say that is a huge statement on our wisdom. For 15,000 years Europe has been at war, and now they are essentially one country.

It's more like a negotiated compromise, hanging by a tough thread (not thin) but still a thread. Check out the various moves to totalitarian governments in the Union; the failure of Germany to help fund large deficits in some other countries; etc. It's just as likely it was/is a short pause for unification followed by a return to Kissinger style confrontations.
