I watched it twice or more - I know the TLDR syndrome well. A format of a TED talk is different than a lengthy transcript for a lecture written many years later taken as a retrospective which you have yet to quote.

It appears that Flynn is a little embarrassed how the discussion has been focused on one interesting fact that wasn't even discovered by him and the generalizations being made from it.

What is "normal" is based upon societal expectations and needs. He names the four Paradoxes and itemizes the resolution of them. This principle can be extended to 4 minute miles and Usain Bolt's performance which was mediocre for an Aboriginal 10,000 years ago based upon footprints found

When people forget how to build things with their hands - we are screwed and no longer resilient as a species. See the discussion ralph and I are having about the loss of "manual arts" as a pragmatic kind of "figure it out" kind of intellect - Yankee ingenuity it used to be called done by people out of the main loop like the Wright Bros and Robert Goddard when there was no book to read on the subject..

Differential calculus and mathematics won't help - I've met many PhD's who were not very good in the lab and considered it "grunt work".
