From Yahoo FORE Forum:

Thanks a lot to bbrinker98:

I read that IEEE was unable to come to an agreement for Gig Enet yesterday and adjourned without reaching agreement. They will not meet again until March and no ratification can occur before June.

Tamm Dell'Oro of the "Dell'Oro Group" was quoted in the article as saying that "people would rather buy standardized ATM then proprietary gigabit Ethernet". ( bloomberg.com )

3Com followed up by giving a "Guarantee if Interoperability" on their Gigabit Ethernet products, I would guess to calm their customers.

Bell Atlantic, in a separate announcement, said year 1998 is their year of ATM. "This is the year of ATM for Bell Atlantic, We can't deliver it fast enough." ( internettelephony.com )

Sounds like the ducks are getting in line for ATM.

Igor:

I checked with my sources at ML and around 2:33pm this afternoon they upgraded to short-to-intermediate term accumulate (2-2-9) on FORE. Also, since IEEE could not agree on standards for GE (see news from COMS) and now these standards won't be finalized till June, means FORE has an excellent window of opportunity to push ATM to the enterprise customers. FORE better capitalize on this opportunity as these do not come often!
