This is good news and bad news. I read in The economist back when it was useful, that labs did not pursued a malaria vaccine and the article said, even if they would stumble into the vaccine they would not test and bring to the market. because it would cannibalize the revenues of the medicines to treat the disease. Was in Nigeria where I had 8 malarias. One per year. (i might have been in the 6th when I read the article. Then I though these OPEC countries -then overflowing with Dollars (but not necessarily with brains)- fund a lab to erradicate tropical diseases as there technology could be developed. 35 years passed. Now if you remember very well, Biotechnology was a big hype in the mid -80s. Designer drugs, genetic engineering were all taking off. There were billions invested in that field. And you also remember that there was a promise to profit handsomely from that. Dr. Fauci -at 80- must know that very well. Once Billy heard that, wanting to make more billions (and I need to state here I'm no Elroy) I have nothing against any party making billions. Billy saw the opportunity and told "So guys we just need a push to get all those patents to generate good old cash." The scientists labs and investors said: "Yes Mr. Gates." "So lets bring a catastrophe, you Dr, Fauci and your buddies in the WHO should step in. There will be money for everybody here." There is where we are today. May be the vaccine was there all along and needed the Covid story to coe out of the would work and be tested. "Where is the bad news?", you maybe asking. Those revenues from medicnies to treat malaria will plummet.
