Yeah. Truthful history would be fabulous. But until we get that, ethnic studies sounds cool.

Don't let the perfect be the end run around making things better.

MY POINT.. is we should simpley have a REAL history.. we do not need Asian history or Black history..
Sounds a little like the discounting of police brutality targeting black "suspects," resulting from the term "all lives matter."

Truth is like justice - it is highly subjective. I had no idea how much influence Chinese had in California until college when a California history class was required and it was TRUTHFUL - some people would say that "traditional history" is propaganda. Based upon my experience - it is.

The way it was presented to me, an elementary school kid in the 60's, the Missions were "great" - we had school buses going there where priests and nuns gave revisionist lectures about day to day life. The Catholic Church monetizes these with state subsidies as tourist destinations to give a very one-sided version of events - focusing on hard work, solemn prayer and pastoral themes. You think pedos are bad now - imagine the "fun" they had with native children who didn't love God as they should. To be "truthful", missions should be treated as somber places like Auschwitz where the truth of an invading set of religious zealots subjugated the local people - hunting them down and enslaving them, breaking apart families and stripping the children of their parent's language is contextualized.

A Polly-Anna version of history is always told from the winners perspective unless people are forced to be truthful. Considering the history, a small dose of ethic experience (read: ethnic studies) would help restore the balance - the version of elementary school history about the Revolution didn't point out that Americans are violent and religious zealots led by cynical moneyed interest. Our revolution had little to do with "Freedom". Other former British Colonies didn't need to have a violent revolution to get arguably better systems of government. But, no former British Colony treated the indigenous people well either.
