No debating that it increases the spread. Are we collectively giving up the chance to see a country, attend a wedding or a funeral in another state or country because of that? If we drove to such venues (if even an option considering intercontinental travel would be off the table for most people) - we'd have many times more fatalities than if those same people took a plane. Not that ships were better than cars or plaies - probably worse from a hygiene POV.

Pandemics suck - the lesson was we weren't ready and had a government leader who was in denial. IMO airlines did help get personnel and supplies where they needed to be. To hope they go broke would not be an appropriate reprisal.
