So can we explain Korea not getting Nobel prizes or the utter doltishness of some of the Mensa people? Korea has a culture of deference to authority - look at the KAL 801 history. How do you measure that? A sensible car purchase is a balance of utility, passenger experience, noise, acceleration, braking and fuel economy. Looking at one parameter is illogical and certainly not an indication of "utter smartness". You remain unconvinced - I get it. We see the world differently.
