Pigboy,

<<SGI is going to oem a FC switch and a hub, per a conversation with an exec at SGI last week. Wouldn't say with whom, obviously, for NDA reasons. I think it will be with brocade or ancor on the switch side and gadzoox or vixel on the hub side.>>

Very interesting... I get so used to thinking of SGI as a workstation company, that I tend to ignore them on the server side. Now that they have a new CEO, maybe they will start to deliver on some of their promises too.

Did you notice in the Genroco press release today that they also plan to offer a Fibre Channel switch? It wasn't clear to me whether it would be developed by Genroco, or OEMed. The barriers to entry for switched fabrics are high. It will be interesting to watch companies like Genroco and Arcxel, to see how they do. I can't believe that companies like Genroco and Arcxel would even attempt to enter the market if they didn't think there was some money to be made there.

<<He did say that SGI were the only people to do a Terabyte backup w/ FC in one hour (with Oracle)...said Sun has tried to do, but hasn't yet.>>

A Terabyte in one hour? Wow! I'm going to have to get a better backup system. <g>
