In Oakland, black history became part of my high school curriculum back in 1969-1971. Consciousness at Laney Community College and UC Berkeley was colossal in the 1970's. I remember learning the truth, that Aretha Franklin was true American classical music. It makes total sense to me**.

This is more a red state (Texas!) and suburban/rural issue in the US.

Did/does Canada or for that matter any other country outside of Africa teach such critical information about people (indigenous, trafficked, immigrants) of color?
