FTJoe,

What was always apalling in my eyes was the blatant racism that existed in society during WWII.

No one ever questioned the merit of locking up Japanese-Americans (Nisei), but these same folks barely bothered to question the loyalty of German or Italian Americans. We used to live near one of those internment camps. The families were interned there while many of there boys fought in Italy in the Nisei Battalion. G*damn heroes, every one of them!!

Btw, Eisenhower got us into Vietnam when he sent military advisors. Kennedy increased that involvement, and then Johnson totally escalated the conflict(and then proceeded to incrementalize a war.)

But if you really want to blame someone, you can blame the French and the Truman Administration who refused to apply adequate pressure to force France to give up their colonialist aspirations in hopes that they would become part of NATO.

Ever heard the adage "the strong do what they will, the weak suffer what they must"?? It was stated in supposedly democratic Greece when the leader of a beseiged Polis asked his attackers for terms of surrender.

Shall we digress into discussions of racism and the white man's burden for enslaving african tribes to work our plantations?? Why don't we discuss the origin of the word "slave" which originate from the root "Slav". Oh yes... slave originates from the extremely lively trade in human life during the 12th-13th centuries and beyond. Shall we talk about the role that Arabs merchants and rival African tribes played in enslaving fellow Africans and selling them into bondage??

God people!! We know what our history is.. We know that slavery still exists in the Sudan (documented). We know that we aren't nice to one another without proper coercive measures in place to keep us in place. The only "rights" that we have are those that we are willing to defend with our lives. If you stop defending your society from those who wish to prey upon you, you have given up your right to peaceful co-existence and societal bliss... :0)

Stepping off my soapbox now.... <wink> This reminds me of my ol expresso slurping days in College... Miss those late night debates rather badly.

Regards,

Ron
