David,
Academics are the feces of the world! Imagine, being able to rationalize the 'murder' of a 1-week old infant, infantcide!...but, hey, thats what academics do!
Myself, having to had to perform endless autopsies on still-borns and surgical exams on spontaneous & induced abortions, my feelings are this......the term is 'products of conception', the pathologists job is to obtain villi & or fetal parts ( if present )at the surgical exam to document 'life'....w/o villi, placental tissues, maternal cotyledons, fetal sac, etc....what you're left with is blood clot and hemmorhagic tissues............seeing this day in & day out in clinical situations and making note of the socio-economic make-up of the patient (induced abortion), my feelings are that govt has no right to interfere with a womans' choice, on a philosophical plane, 'products of conception' are not a viable 'entity'...secondly, giving govt. the ability to make that choice leaves us powerless when/if govt. decides to make abortions mandatory. Democracy implies 'choice', but what the MIT professor suggests is 'murder'.
