The brutal truth is that Joe's unabashed hawkish support for Israel led him to side with the Republican's on foreign and especially middle east policy. While he voted with the Democrats on most important domestic issues.

Even in this forum as well as Sioux, the topic of Israel is the most polarizing center-to-left, even helping the Republican's win support at the ballot boxes. Lieberman was a fierce defender of the most right wing Israel policies.

For disclosure, as before, I maintain a nuanced pro-Israel-but-dovish two-state position and I'm anti-rightwing expansion policies. I remain critical of all "sides" who claim their God or history values their everyday people's lives and claims over the OTHER, or that deadly might-makes-right is justified, even desirable.

Former U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut details in a new book how aid from top Republicans — including strategist Karl Rove — helped him win reelection against a more left-leaning Democrat and a Republican.
