I asked my accountant about treating STLC stock as a loss for 1997. Being the conservative type he is, he advised that I do not use it as a loss until the stock is actually cancelled. He recons that as long as it continues to trade, it is viable. I must heed this advice and wait until STLC is actually suspended.

Riechers, I think the stock is declared worthless on the date that the court closes the case. I am not a tax accountant, and am only offering my opinion. You might call the company (Hammer) and see if they will give you their opinion. (I know this sounds like a stupid idea.)

Of course, your best bet is to consult with a CPA.
