Wharfie,
China is short of power cuz the coal generators were going broke because of the cost of coal
And why do you think the cost of coal is skyrocketing? Maybe it's because they shut down their coal mining operations? Maybe they ramped down coal production too soon? Maybe they were a bit too eager to move away from coal?

That's not a far-fetched theory, by the way. Beijing also wants to clean up their air. The smog there is heinous. It makes the wildfire air here in California look pristine.
That's why there will be a lot of storage in a carbon-free society..
The storage solutions aren't cheap enough yet. Even water reservoirs are quite expensive and have a big impact on the environment. And large-scale Li-Ion isn't going to be the answer.

There are some technologies currently in development, but one of them would have to represent a breakthrough before the stage problem can be solved.

No matter what, though, you greenies will always try to put the cart before the horse. Texas became too reliant on wind energy, only to get screwed over when said windmills were not engineered for cold weather. California is experiencing blackouts thanks to PG&E, yet we're going to stress the electrical grid even more thanks to Newsom's "bold" march to a "carbon-free" future.

And here you are, trying desperately to blame the unreliability of green energy on a lack of backup fossil fuels, LOL ...

"How Dare You?" - These Countries Are The Most Committed To Coal

BY TYLER DURDEN

FRIDAY, OCT 22, 2021 - 11:20 PM

The already ambitious global carbon emission reduction goals were dealt a significant blow this month as China, having recently pledged to end all future foreign coal power projects, announced that they would be further committing to domestic coal expansion - likely pushing back the year the country expects to reach peak emissions (currently 2030), referencing a new “phased timetable and roadmap for peaking carbon emissions”

Statista's Martin Armstrong reports that, in a statement after a meeting of Beijing’s National Energy Commission, the Chinese premier, Li Keqiang said:

“Given the predominant place of coal in the country’s energy and resource endowment, it is important to optimise the layout for the coal production capacity, build advanced coal-fired power plants as appropriate in line with development needs, and continue to phase out outdated coal plants in an orderly fashion. Domestic oil and gas exploration will be intensified.”

As data from Global Energy Monitor shows, planned and under construction coal plants in China already totaled 238 projects in July 2021, equating to an expected 260,017 megawatts of capacity.

You will find more infographics at Statista

This new output accounts for over half of all the world's currently under construction coal energy capacity and puts China firmly ahead of all other countries still investing in the fossil fuel.

We know at least on person is going to be furious...

Watch as Sky News Australia rips a new one for Greta.

This would never happen in Canada, USA, or Europe. Three Cheers!
