Mitsubishi Looks to Revise Semiconductor Division Strategy

Mitsubishi Electric <TOKYO:6503>, which has seen increasing
consolidated losses, is looking to revise its semiconductor
division strategies. The division is a major influence on the
company's poor results. First, the company will be cut facility
and equipment reinvestment for the division by over 40%. Second,
the company plans to increase the royalty income from supplying
technology to Texas Instruments for Mitsubishi's internally
developed DRAM technology. Third, the company will postpone
development of its 64 bit MPUs and shift to develop 32bit MPUs
instead.
