I came across this article on Temic while researching potential competitors of a GaAs company. The article "Semiconductor arm keys restructuring at Temic" (from EETimes 11/20/97) mentions rollout of several SiGe ICs for the communications market in early 1998:

Temic appears to be making a big bet on this technology; if they're successful it could be a nice bonus for Vishay. Temic forms the SiGe layer by implantation while IBM and partners use an epitaxial layer grown under ultra-high vacuum. This may give them advantages and disadvantages in terms of versatility and cost.
