Kailash,

Most software companies have a lower first quarter because the sales comp plans encourage the sales force to drag in everything they can in the previous fourth quarter. That's when the deals are made.

Also, many companies sit on their tails all year procrastinating the buying decisions until the suddenly realize that if they don't use up their budget they will lose it. Then along comes a new year and they go back to procrastinating.

Having said that, my company had a so-so 4Q97 because some big orders drifted off into January. Then January was the biggest month ever in hour history, by a bunch! So, you never know!

Kailesh, I expect a small profit for the quarter to be announced on the 10th, not a loss.
