That was 30 years ago. No one gives a damn about merit anymore. Today WOKE and equity are the lingua franca of the realm Do you check boxes is the overriding question. Black check. Female check. Lesbian check. At Mass General you cannot fire anyone today no matter how incompetent. Transfer to another dept is the program. With 80,000 employees it is easier than racial and sexual discrimination suits which every dissatisfied worker threatens.
