NEWBRIDGE STICKING TO ITS MARKET
canoe.com
Ottawa Sun While analysts have speculated Newbridge Networks needs to focus its efforts on its profitable ATM products, there's no indication its marketing arm will change course. "We have a story to tell in how our approach is different from other company's," said Jim Mackie, vice-president of strategic marketing. "We've got the same product, the same story, we won't change any of it."

OK, I've been following this thread for some time, but I've just
subscribed and so am new to the discussion. These remarks are not
just directed to you, Mark. By and large I found this thread both
informative and insightful. Some have gone to extra lengths to
provide us all with the benefit of their opinion and research - and
I would like to believe that's why we are here - to help one another.
I have been in and out of Newbridge half a dozen times or more since
1993 - made some and lost some. Don't pretend to be an expert, but
working with a carrier, I believe packet (ATM) will become the telco
backbone for voice, data and image, and Newbridge has excellent products. How they market, compete, and contain costs may be an
entirely other matter as you have all pointed out - the jury is still out. I have a small position now, but was all set to jump in a major way at $42 (CDN) a week ago. However, I will wait at least until Feb 24 before I move or I may put an order in for $24, or get in on a
breakout above $33.

Let me say that we have all probably lost in the market. I was both
rewarded by Bre-X (sheer dumb luck!), and burned by a Bre-X tag-along.
Yes, I was angry, but I don't think this is the place to vent anger
especially when directed at one another here. If a mistake is made
why don't we just point it out nicely and get on with it. For those
who seem to get their jollies by "cheerleading", "gloating", etc., I
think the best response is none at all.
