More and more that describes the best businesses. I understand why companies want to be private but it cuts off one more path to self reliance for the would be upwardly mobile.

investing in non public companies.

Here's a hypothetical question I've asked a lot smart but have never gotten a good question. Say a public company has a market cap of $1B. They have cash on hand of $1.5B What's to stop them from going into the market and buying all the outstanding stock. Who then owns the business?
