No the new alpha won't be a "segment" buster. They have consistently been the fastest chip on the market for a few years. People didn't buy then, and nothing has changed.

Furthermore, although the alpha is fast, it is a relatively unsophisticated chip when compared to HP's PA-RISC architecture. Mhz-for-mhz, HP's chip can do 2-3x more work than the alpha.
