Sometime back I posted a rather lengthy piece that may answer your questions about Quotes-Plus, how it creates sub-directories as needed for lists containing more than 255 symbols.

In short...

1. create a text file of all the symbols (1, 2, 300, or 10,000) you want to look at in MetaStock and name it big.lst
2. create a folder named BIG under the directory you create to hold your price data. Mine is D:\QP2Meta\BIG
3. Shutdown MetaStock
4. Open the Quotes-Plus module named something like Output to MetaStock.
5. Set the option "volume scaling" to "100'"s and check the box to create DOP files if you expect to use the data in SuperCharts or software that requires DOP files.
6. Close Set Options and Open "Output a list of symbols to several Metastock directories"
7. Type the path to your folder... D:\QP2Meta\BIG in the top line
8. click on the radio button "Search for a list file" and when you've located your list of symbols file called Big.lst double click the name and the path will be automatically placed in the list file name window.
9. Click the radio button "Output Now"

Quotes-Plus will automatically create the folders under the "BIG" directory that are necessary to hold your 1 or 2 or 300 or 10,000 symbol price data.

I automatically update daily about 1400 symbols in the 6 directories Quotes-Plus created for them. About once a week I delete the 6 directories leaving "D:\QP2Meta\BIG" alone, refresh the Big.lst from scans I've built or borrowed. (Tip: press "shift-delete" for a quicker cleanout of the folders)

I don't want 10,000 symbols in my MetaStock database since I'm not interested in more than 1 or 2 or 3 thousand in any one period. I get those by letting Quotes-Plus scan the 10,000 and give me a short list of the ones fitting my criteria.

Then I do steps 3. to 9. again.
