Tim, Just to let you know I didn't abandon this effort, and to thank you for all the help you've offered. But.... after much wasted time, trying everything I knew (and learned), it turns out, apparently, in order to connect to my very long time with Comcast, I now need to sign on with Xfinity. I thought that had been dealt with long ago, but apparently not.

My attempts to login to my email account with Xfinity informs me my account is "past due" and now I must pay to use it. Since moving out of the Comcast service area several years ago, the account has only been of inconsequential value, and I certainly will not begin paying for it.

I'll just delete Thunderbird from both computers and stop wasting my (and your) time with it. Thanks again for trying to help.
