Cato Institute refers to the 'Cato' of the family that tee-ed up institutional state-sponsored genocide

Would not be different if there should be a 'Hitler Institute' named after teachings of great grandson of Hitler, should there be such

I would understand should folks object

Given such Greco-Roman link I would hesitate naming an influential institute such, but hesitation does not mean automatic strenuous objection leading to 'cancel'. He, Cato the Younger seemed a standup fellow, as opposed to Cato the Elder, the genocidal great grandfather.

I understand no one gets to choose antecedents. I would change my name in a second if I knew my great grandfather was a genocidal character. I certainly would not name an institute after the family name. I would disown the family.

I would also understand that times change, interpretation fits the time for some actions. However, genocide seems a crime that does not change with the times.

How would you decide?

I can guess how the Carthaginians would decide, if any still around.
