Re: Post Toasties, a couple more pennies worth ... In general I'm not in favor of ignoring posters, but clearly there are limits (and some threads suffer drastically). I've had a few random thoughts on how SI might maintain reasonable access while letting us shut out the Spots's of the world, etc. These aren't necessarily consistent nor mutually exclusive: 1. Show the poster and 2-3 lines of the following message near the top NEXT button, and have a SKIP button which would replace those few lines with the poster and 2-3 lines of next sequential message, and so on. You have to put it at the top to make a quick scan possible (otherwise you'd have to page down through long messages). Probably just showing 1 line like in recent messages is enough. 2. Ignoring a poster skips that posters messages when clicking NEXT but not when clicking the reference post. For instance, you're ignoring Spots and you seeTo: +Spots (390 ) From: +Bill Ulrich Spots, although you've got the IQ of a library lion, there is a grain of truth in your latest flame (no doubt left there by accident) ... You skipped 390 because you were ignoring Spots, but you could click 390 to go back to it. Message 390 should also appear in the numerical list of recent posts to the thread. The net of this is that IGNORE POSTER only works with the NEXT button but not with other ways of getting at a message. 3. Ignoring a poster expires in some maximum time (few days, few weeks). Give the turkey a chance to reform. 4. Show number of ignoring members in posters profile. This is similar to the public stocks. Country's gone downhill since we gave up public scorn IMHO.
