Most people don't realize Rolex was not considered a high end brand until sometime into the 1970s, imo. Then their marketing took off. Or if it was considered high end they didn't price or promote themselves as such. My dad said Omega was every bit of Rolex and then some when he learned about watches in the Army PX in the 1950s. Your Explorer and early Subs were total tool watches back then. Tools in a good way. The same with early Cosmograph/Daytona.
