** OFF TOPIC **

<I tried a digital camera (panasonic I think) 3-months back and found that the batteries last for only about 5 pictures. Is that true of Olympus also??>

First, let me apologize to those purists who would argue that we should be talking strictly about INTC. I would only point out that the interest shown here with regard to digital photography is somewhat relevant (and telling) because digital photography represents a rapidly growing opportunity for many tech companies including Intel. I am very happy that Intel has recognized this. IMO, digital photography and DVD are going to be major forces in the years to come.

Re: Battery Life

You can't use conventional alkalines. Well, you can...but (as you suggested) they have a very very short life. The solution is to get NiMH batteries and a charger. Four AA's run about $20 and a 1 hr. charger costs about $27. I got 8 batteries so I always have a fresh set (camera requires 4). The NiMH have a more than adequate life time. You can take about 50 pictures with about half flash and an average amount of zooming. I think we are talking about an hour of continuous use. Note: NiMH are a significantly better solution than conventional NiCads rechareables. BTW, battery life is not camera specific. All digital cameras are power hungry.

For those interested, I went ahead and got a free web page (they give you 3 meg) via Geocities and posted some samples. Below is the URL. I will be changing/adding pictures from time to time as this is a good way to make them available to family members. Future pictures will be family oriented, however, I am going to Sanibel Island (FL) in a couple weeks and plan on taking a lot of nature pictures. I will post some when I get back.

If anyone has any further non-INTC related questions regarding digital photography feel free to e-mail me and I will provide whatever input I can.
