That shows why you need international grids
The international grid will build itself.

Already there are power lines being laid across the Mediterranean Sea so that Europe can access solar power from North Africa. So far, it's not cost-effective; photovoltaic panels built domestically in Europe are proving to be more cost-efficient.

Unless there is a breakthrough in power transmission, the "global electricity system" isn't going to happen, and you're just going to get the patchwork of power-sharing arrangements that we already have today.
