Ed,
My response was to two questions. Does the managed care organization that my wife is most familiar with care about "nonessential" problems? After you questioned that accuracy of my response, I discussed the question with my wife again. By and large you are correct; this would be considered a nonessential condition. In many cases doctors get creative in the diagnosis of conditions to try to get them to be covered by the MCOs, PPOs, HMOs and all the other Os. I have seen on another post on this thread indicating that it may be covered by approximately 60% of MCOs.

The second question I tried to answer was whether the doctors are familiar with Muse? The point about the free lunches is not that Vivus has done that or plans to do that. The point was that the doctors are overwhelmed with "new" drugs. The fact that my wife has filled some scripts for Muse means that a least some local doctor is familuar enough with the drug to prescribe it. She does feel that the advertising campaign will have a positive effect if patients start asking doctors for a drug by name.

I apologize to everyone, I am glad you made me check my facts. It is important that the information we all get is accurate.
