As a retired professional stock trader/investor, I'd put it a little differently. "The opposite of what....." the majority is doing when that majority is in terminal mania, whether bullish or bearish. Then, stand aside until TA & FA signals confirm that top or bottom. You're not trying to nail the exact top or bottom. That's for liars or cases of rare luck. Savvy players don't rely on luck. As Baron Rothschild told J.P. Morgan's father in the mid-19th Century: I'll gladly give up the first 10% & the final 10% in a Bull Market. Just give me the 80% in between & I'll be happy. Iso
