Mark, you sure ask a lot of questions. :-) I'll take a stab at some of them.
1. Why purchase 50,000 shares? Maybe McCaw wanted to send the market a signal. "Hey, guys, I'm still committed to NXTL and here's proof, even if it's just a token purchase." Who knows for sure?
2. When McCaw announces the exercise of his remaining stock option, the stock will rock and roll.
3. I think that folks are holding a basket under the stock, catching all stock that falls into it at the current price. That's why the stock went sideways yesterday. At some point the current sellers will run out of stock and the buyers will reach for the stock. We saw a hint of that at yesterday's close and again this morning. Of course there's always the possibility that the buyer will fill his basket before the sellers empty theirs. I don't think so but it must be considered. Remember, one fella's distribution is another's accumulation.

Dear Mark:

How can we tell whether it is accum. or distrib? I have always wondered about this. True the average transaction based on your numbers was 4000+ shares but for every buyer there is a seller isn't there? I'll tell you what I see from looking at the otions is that there is not a big premium on the out of the money calls. This leads me to believe that there is not a lot of speculation from the have nots going on in this stock

About Mccaw that would be a puzzle that probably is best unravelled by his tax accountant for that seems to be the only reason one would suppose he would make for him, such a chump change purchase. It also might represent a little salesmanship or it might have to do with some voting power threshhold.

Indeed this stock is puzzling and will probably languish/stagnate until this refinancing is done and we start to approach the next numbers release.

Too bad we don't have an "in" through this forum who is a dealer in a large metro area.

I still am not sure how you get your block trade info.

Regards,

John

Mark,

That was a cheap shot at Al. I happen to agree with Al's assessment. In fact, I have posted previously that the stock looks range bound for the next few months until news come out. News have come out, and are both good (refinancing, high expected sub numbers) and bad (growth teeth problems, as evidenced by back office and technical support). So, I continue to advocate a range of $22 to $28 (at least until the new sub numbers come out to confirm expectations). Where I differ from Al, is that I have more faith at NXTL's management. My 5 cents.

Regards
Tavros

Mark - CMcC is probably subject to short swing profit rule. "Insiders" can't do a buy/sell turnaround w/in 6 months.
